Re: Server and GM location The servers will be moved to our datacenter in the US. Today is just the announcement of the Global Service. We aren't assuming control of European services until June 1. Until then Codemasters is still handling the service, forums, etc on the EU servers. Once the Global Service begins we will have a full set of forums, GMs, and moderators in all supported languages. This is why I've asked our German and French speaking players to please bear with my horrible google translate German and French for the time being.
GMs and Customer Service will not be using Google Translate. I'm the only one who will be. The only reason I will use it is if there is a question that should be answered immediately and I want it to be available in all languages we support. Otherwise you may end up waiting for a long time for an answer while we have it professionally translated. We will have German and French moderators who will be helping with this as well.
I'm not sure where you are in Europe or what your normal play times are, but our current maintenace times are usualy around 6AM-10AM Eastern on Mondays, which works out to about 11AM - 3PM GMT. Generally speaking "peaktime" for MMos is around 8PM-11PM local time.
Perhaps I misunderstood, but there will be no "European based" servers. All servers will be based in the Boston, MA area of the USA.
There are a number of questions that EU players have and not seen any answers to yet, could someone from Turbine answer any of these1 Will kinship's and friend lists remain etc or will kins be disbanded?2 Will our servers stay as they are (and where they are, physically)? FAQ says server names stay as they are, but will Turbine honour our RP servers and uphold their policies?3 Do we have to redownload for the turbine client though? Or will you find some way to merge that too?4 Some EU forum users have been given special forum titles for services to the community, can these titles be used of the forum after the transfer?5 Does turbine also offer events with GM support?6 Will players have to use there account name as there forum user name?7 I would like to know this too.. I have an EU and US account which share the same username.. I hope there's something set up to prevent clashes.
I'll try to answer as best I can.1 - No. We plan on bringing the entire server database over as it is. So when you log in after the transition you will be on the same server with everything pretty much as you left it.2- The physical location of the servers will change, but we do not currently plan to change anything else about the servers.3- We're currently working on tech that will allow you keep your current installation, but this is a complicated piece of work. We'll have a more definite answer as we get closer to June 1.4 - Moving titles and other special designations between forums might not be possible. However, I'll speak with Satine and see if we can't figure something out.5- Not at this time.6- No. The way our system works is you use your account as your forum login, but the name displayed can be any you choose(you select it at sign up) as long as it is not already in use.7- When you transition your account, you will be asked to create a new Turbine account. This will prevent any clashes or conflicts.
Semble que le Client DVD de CodeMasters ne pourra pas se mettre à jour directement chez Turbine.C'est dans la FAQ.Turbine mettra à disposition un nouveau client avant la bascule.
A Word About Turbine Role Play Server Support Since the announcement of the transition to the Turbine Global Service on June 1, 2011, we’ve heard a very clear message from the LOTRO Role Play community; The continued support for existing role play servers is important to you. We’ve heard you and are very happy to give the following answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding Role Play support after June 1. Will Turbine support existing RP rules servers after the June 1 transition? Turbine will continue to provide Role Play support on the existing RP designated servers at the same level currently provided by Codemasters. What does this mean for the existing US Role Play community, specifically Landroval? We will not be enforcing role play rules or adding official role play support to any of the existing US servers. However, the Landroval server will be designated [EN-RE] – Role Play Encouraged. Role Play Supported and Role Play Encouraged servers after June 1, 2011 * [EN-RE] Landroval (Role Play Encouraged) * [EN-RP] Laurelin (Role Play Supported) * [DE-RP] Belegaer (Role Play Supported) * [FR-RP] Estel (Role Play Supported)
However, regarding the naming conventions, the official designations will reflect the language supported on the server, not the region. Thus EN= English, DE = German, FR = French language, not location. On June 1 the concept of EU, NA, or 'other' communities vanishes, there will be one Official LOTRO Community.
Merging two large server farms and their respective support systems is no small task. As a result we won't be allowing transfers between forum US and EU servers initially. This will prevent adding additional complications to things while we verify the stability and performance of the newly merged service. However, as we move foward and bring premium services back online after the tranistion we do plan on allowing transfers between US and EU servers. I don't have any kind of ETA for that and I can't comment of pricing but I'll certinaly pass the suggestion along.
The ability to play in German, French or English is going live today. All other aspects of the transition will be live after the official migration after June 1.So if you'd like to see what LOTRO looks like in another language, you can change your language setting in the launcher and check it out. Note: It's not complete so there will be some elements (like splash screens) that will still be in english until after the transition.
